about

Marc Mellits' suite of five movements, which are constructed with interlocking patterns that evoke the machinations of industrial heavy industry moreso than any classical musical format, was originally commissioned by Bang on a Can for the People's Commissioning Fund concert in the year prior. Heard here within the reverberant halls of Brooklyn Academy of Music's Howard Gilman Opera House, where the Bang on a Can Marathon found its home in the early 00's via BAM's Next Wave Festival, this performance of "5 Machines", and this marathon in particular, was a special one that commemorated not only the 5 year anniversary of the PCF project – but also the birth of our very own Cantaloupe Music, now in its 20th year of operation!
